Where Next?

WHY DO YOUR OWN RESEARCH? First and foremost, a pure interest in Roman, Romano-British, or local history is the most valuable asset to any research project. But rather than to just learn from others, further reasons for independent research, can be to make your own decision on an ambiguous issue or to answer a hitherto unexplored question.

Ambiguity is rife in Romano-British history, which has little evidence to begin with, and focussing on South Yorkshire which has even less, it is easy to disagree on issues such as the levels of continuity and change. There are still many gaps in our knowledge of Roman Britain, and as more archeological finds are made historians are constantly learning and revising our ideas about Roman Britain. Only very recently for example has any significant amount of evidence emerged concerning rural Roman South Yorkshire.
